Marketplace Fees & Seller Charges
Simple, transparent Marketplace pricing for sellers, with standard secure payment processing included in the normal selling fee.
Policy version 2026-10-06.1 · MotorCircle MarketplaceThe MotorCircle Trade Store is separate and uses its own sales/returns terms. These pages relate to third-party Marketplace transactions.
Simple all-in selling fee
The advertised MotorCircle selling fee includes standard secure payment processing. The seller therefore sees one normal selling fee rather than a separate MotorCircle percentage plus a standard card-processing deduction. The fixed fee is charged once per seller transaction, not once for every unit or line item bought from that seller in the same order.
Seller levels and member rate
MotorCircle uses rolling 30-day completed Marketplace sales so sellers can automatically qualify for lower selling rates. The default levels are:
- Starter: 7.00% standard / 5.50% with a paid MotorCircle Shop or active paid MotorCircle repairer membership, plus £0.25 once per seller transaction.
- Active Seller: 6.50% standard / 5.00% with a paid MotorCircle Shop or active paid MotorCircle repairer membership, plus £0.25 once per seller transaction.
- Pro Seller: 6.00% standard / 4.50% with a paid MotorCircle Shop or active paid MotorCircle repairer membership, plus £0.25 once per seller transaction.
- Power Seller: 5.50% standard / 4.00% with a paid MotorCircle Shop or active paid MotorCircle repairer membership, plus £0.25 once per seller transaction.
A paid MotorCircle Shop or active paid MotorCircle repairer membership qualifies the seller for the member rate. The two discounts do not stack: if a seller has both, the same member rate applies. Seller type (private seller, sole trader, company or partnership) does not by itself change the selling percentage.
High-value transactions
For each seller transaction, the normal seller-level percentage applies to the first £750 of feeable sale value and only 3.00% applies to the portion above that threshold. This high-value rate is the floor and is not reduced further by Shop or repairer-member discounts.
Included listings and excess listings
Standard sellers currently receive 300 new Marketplace listings per calendar month. After that allowance, each additional new listing is charged at 35p. Keeping an existing fixed-price listing live, editing it, or confirming that stale stock is still available does not consume another monthly listing allowance and does not create a renewal fee.
Paid Shops have larger included allowances and lower excess-listing charges:
- MotorCircle Shop: £19.99/month standard; £14.99/month for an active paid MotorCircle repairer member; 500 included listings/month, then 10p per new listing.
- Shop Plus: £49.99/month standard; £39.99/month for an active paid MotorCircle repairer member; 2,000 included listings/month, then 5p per new listing.
- Shop Pro: £149.99/month standard; £119.99/month for an active paid MotorCircle repairer member; 999,999 included listings/month, with no excess listing fee.
Shop subscriptions
Paid MotorCircle Shops are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically through Stripe until cancelled. The recurring price and Shop plan are shown before checkout. An active paid MotorCircle repairer membership can qualify for the lower repairer-member Shop price shown at signup. If that separate repairer entitlement ends, MotorCircle can require the Shop to move to the current standard Shop price for a future billing period or ask the seller to reselect a Shop plan; MotorCircle will not create a second overlapping Shop subscription. Sellers can manage payment details and cancellation through the Shop billing link. Shop branding and member-rate benefits require an eligible active subscription.
Paid promotion
Sellers can optionally buy fixed-price listing boosts or category-featured placement. Promoted products are clearly labelled Sponsored. Buying promotion does not override relevance, seller/account restrictions, product-safety review or Marketplace moderation. Organic ranking is not sold as part of a Shop subscription.
Transaction fee base and carriage
The MotorCircle percentage normally applies to the item sale value. Genuine carriage is normally outside the percentage fee. If carriage is disproportionate to the item price, includes an avoidable markup or appears structured to avoid selling fees, MotorCircle may treat the relevant amount as feeable sale value. Genuine high-cost freight can be reviewed and verified by MotorCircle.
Connected-account and payout costs
The buyer pays only the checkout total shown to them. Standard payment processing is included in the advertised selling fee. Separate seller-specific Stripe Connect costs that arise outside normal buyer card processing, such as an active connected-account charge or a seller-selected payout/instant-payout cost, can be recovered from seller proceeds or the seller fee ledger where disclosed.
MotorCircle covers the connected-account monthly cost while the seller has an active paid MotorCircle repairer membership. Where a recoverable seller-specific cost is larger than currently available proceeds, the unrecovered balance can carry forward to a later seller release rather than creating a negative seller payout.
Fee invoices
MotorCircle creates a seller fee invoice/statement for chargeable Marketplace services. This is separate from any invoice or receipt the seller is required to issue to their buyer.
Refunds and reversals
If a protected Marketplace order is refunded after payment has been processed, the buyer receives the full eligible refund. Stripe and other payment-provider costs from the original transaction may not be returned to MotorCircle. MotorCircle therefore recovers the original non-returned provider cost attributable to the refunded amount from the seller account and also charges the published refund handling fee. The current handling fee is 0.50% of the refunded amount, minimum £0.25 and maximum £5.00 before any applicable VAT. These seller-side charges do not reduce the buyer refund and can be recovered from later seller proceeds or the seller cost ledger. The seller remains liable for an unpaid seller-cost balance even if no further sale is made; MotorCircle may require settlement before closing or fully releasing the seller account. Historical orders retain the pricing snapshot and policy treatment that applied when they were created.
VAT
Where MotorCircle is required to charge VAT on its own Marketplace fees, the relevant VAT amount and registration details will appear on the MotorCircle fee invoice. The seller remains responsible for their own tax and VAT obligations on the underlying sale.
These are MotorCircle platform rules and process descriptions, not a substitute for legal advice. Applicable statutory rights and legal obligations take priority where they cannot lawfully be excluded or reduced.
